Mission
and Funding
The Foundation for the Contemporary Family provides financial support
for innovative research that enhances the understanding of contemporary
families and/or the clinical practice of couples and family therapy.
We execute this mission through a broad range of scholarships and
grants, including dissertation research. For all of these, it encourages
applications from individuals who represent diversity in race, ethnicity,
gender, age, disability, and sexual orientation. The FFCF Dissertation
Grant is awarded to pre-doctoral students from APA approved Psychology
Graduate Programs or AAMFT approved PsyD Marital and Family Therapy
programs
Description
The program awards grants for graduate student dissertation projects
that focus on innovative aspects of contemporary families or research
designs that advance the field of couples or family therapy. Projects
that advance theory, assessment, or clinical practice in these areas
are eligible.

• Advance the field of couples or family therapy through empirical,
methodological, or theoretical contribution; enhance the understanding
of the evolving nature and issues of contemporary families
• Encourage talented students toward careers in specified areas.

• Annual grants of $2,500–$15,000
Eligibility
Requirements
• Doctoral level graduate student in psychology or marital and
family therapy enrolled full-time and in good standing at an accredited
APA or AAMFT approved university;
• Demonstrated competence in area of the proposed work;
• IRB approval must be received from the principal investigator’s
institution before funding can be awarded if human participants are
involved.
Evaluation
Criteria
• Conformance with stated program goals;
• Magnitude of incremental contribution in topic area;
• Quality of proposed work;
• Applicant’s competence to execute the project.
Proposal
Requirements
• Description of proposed project to include goal, relevant
background, target population, methods, budget, anticipated outcomes,
and dissemination plans;
• Format: not to exceed 10 pages (1 inch margins, double-spaced,
no smaller than 10 point type);
• Timeline for execution
